8. December 1842
My Dear Elisabeth.
Your letter was delivered yesterday afternoon
by a girl, and I wondered till I read it how it came without
postage, I would be afraid the girl has been wearing when she has left
so soon & as for Mary Wilson I have the same opinion of her as your¬
self, and dont see any great occasion for your staying much longer
on account of the change, but you know best yourself.
I had a washing
yesterday & went to glasgow to day and took William & Jeanie along
with me, leaving the charge of drying the clothes with Margret which she
has got nearly done, and few plain things iorned.
I went to Miſs Gardiners,
& paid the bonnets 4/ for making & 3/6 for lappets to each, & she says if your
flower does not please you she will try to sell it, as for your black plaid she
would advise you to keep it as it is, but she will be very happy to see
you at any time to talk of it.
I staid with Mrs Horn to day, and it is
now past nine and William has got fretful you must excuse my
brevity, for though I have a great many things to talk of when
I see you, I have no particulars to write so my dear Elisabeth hoping you
are well, I will now bid you good night. and believe me to remain
Your affectionate SisterMary Mather.
PS do try to come as soon as possible for I am wearying very much
for you.
