My dear Mr. Mather
Since I had the last
opportunity of speaking to you the Manse
has not ceased to be a fever hospital. The two who
turned ill fist were much worse after I saw
you, but I am glad to say that they are now
wonderfully recovered. The other boy took ill
ten days ago and his case has been a very critical
one. I am glad to say that there are
now some symptoms of a change for the better,
and we have the hope that he will soon be
past the worst. On Sabbath last after preaching
in Coatbridge I had a sharp attack of
Influenza, and collapsed so completely that
I had to be brought home in a cab. I am very
thankful to say that I feel a little relieved
today, and hope soon to be up and out again.
I typewrite this as you may suppose, in bed.
But for the way in which I have been circumstanced, I would have been down to see you before
this.
I suppose Mr. Duncan Marshall has written to you about the Young people's Social, which takes
place tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, in McLelland's Hall, Stirling Street. If you can arrange
to be present they will be very glad to see you, and I expect it will be a pleasant evening.
The hour is fixd at seven, in order that beginning may be made without fail at half past
seven. I am very sorry tht I am prevented going myself.
Hoping to be able to come down soon,
With our united kindest regards to you all,
believe me, very sincerely yours,
John McDonald.
