I am sorry to tell you that
I have received orders from the
Secretary at war that the
Garrison of Dumbarton be
reduced to ct new Establishment
viz.
Governour & Captain
1 Leiftenant
1 Serjeant
2 Corporalls
1 Drummer
1 Gunner
15 Soldiers
This is to take place on the 24th
of this Mounth. I have sent
the original order to Skifnish John
who will likewise send it you, but
I writ this for fear of the others
not coming in time. pray since there are to be but
15 let them be full, I am very sorry for the poor
men, I believe every body knows this is ct time when
I can neither do nor hinder any thing & when I received
the order from the war office I took it for
granted that it was my own Diſsmiſsion
