Here is 1000 copies of “The Shepherds Queer Book” and the cost £92:16 (the price 7/) on receiving of which he will ship them to you. I think you need not hesitate about taking this work. The Edition of the Songs with notes consists likewise of 1000 but the expense of them is £145= and the price 7/ retail price. I do not know how they should be so much more but if I were you I would offer him £100= I have so many literary friends in London that I could get them a hitch in every paper and review and it would be best that all my poetry at least should come out under the auspices of one gentleman as I really am sick of Blackwood's insulting and vulgar insinuations. If you like to take Blackwood's offer I will transfer the editions to you “The queer Book” for £75= at bills of six nine or twelve months and the songs for £30= as they cost so much more. I would take them myself and give you them to sell for me on commission but then I have not the cash. There is a copy of “The Queer Book” on the way for you to see After you have deliberated on this send me an answer and believe me ever Your's most truly James Hogg 1832 Feb: 17 Hogg James Esq Mr John Murray 15 Albemarl Street
