Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing (CMSW) - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk/cmsw/ Document : 240 Title: Letter from Geikie to Murray, 10 Dec 1874 Author(s): Geikie, Sir Archibald Edinburgh 10th. Decr. 1874 My dear Sir I delayed answering your note of Monday until I should hear from Mr. Reeks and Professor Ramsay. The former wrote at once and in the same sense as his conversation with you. I have just heard from the latter and he expresses himself even more strongly than I have done. I can assure you that this less attractive side of Murchison was that by which he was known to a very large circle of outsiders and hence no Life of him would be fair which did not let this side be very decidedly seen . But as I said in my former note I am most anxious to carry you with me in this matter and I now beg to enclose the two pages with a number of proposed amendments. Would you kindly look at these and let me know whether they meet your views. If so would you please return them to me with any further emendation that may occur to you . I am glad to say that a good part of the second volume is in type and I think I can now promise without fail to have it ready by the middle of January . Yours very truly Arch Geikie Geikie Profr 1874 Decr 10
