My Dear Sir I have sent the first half or so of the revised proofs to Clowes & Coy , & will send the remainder tomorrow . I will make few or no alterations , in order that there may be no delay ; and they may go on printing off by Monday . I hope the paper in Frazer will do no harm — if only by identifying me in some way with the subject of the Stephensons . I hear Nov 30 1859 S. Smiles of two , if not three Lives of him as contemplated — one by Manly of the Civil Engineers , another by a Mr W. B. Adams. Theirs will be engineering mainly , & therefore I will [¿] to make mine popular. Shall I write Whymper about the requisite cuts? [Yours] faithfully S Smiles P.S. — Will you direct your clerk to send me a copy of Crokers large vol Boswell , & to charge me with it. Last night I had the inspection of a large mass of old letters which unravel the mystery of the correspondence with Lewis Paul referred to in the vol. J. Murray Esq
