The Magistrates & Council of the City of Glasgow being in Council aſsembled, the Act of Parliment 2 Geo II Cap 24 intituted "An Act for the more effectual preventing Bribery & corruption in the Election of Members to Serve in Parliament" was publicly read, in presence of the said Magistrates and Members of Council, before named. The said day, being the first Tuesday after Michaelmas, and the ordinary day for electing those who shall bear office as Provost and Baillies for the ensuing year, for this Burgh, the Magistrates and members of Council before named, being Convened in the Council Hall; And the Counsellors except the Provost & Baillies being removed from the Council table, the said Provost and Baillies set down the leet of the Counsellors of the Merchant rank capable of being elected Lord Provost of this Burgh for the ensuing year, beig only Sixteen in number, instead of Seventeen (owing to the Dean of Guild being an ordinary Member and the Master of Wor, having resigned,) to the effect one of them might be chosen to bear office or Provost for the ensuing year. And the said Counsellors being divided into four leets, each leet containing four persons, and these leets being Severally voted upon, after the persons in each leet had removed from the Council table, Henry Monteith William [¿], James Dennistoun & Robert Dennistoun Merchant Counsillors were chosen out of the said four leets, and these four persons being put into two leets, and these leets being Severally voted upon, after the persons in each of them present had removed from the Council table, the said Henry Monteith and William Scoles were chosen out of the said two leets, to the effect one of them might be elected to bear office as Provost for the ensuing year. And the said Henry Monteith and William [¿] being put into one leet, after Mr Monteith (Mr [¿] being absent) had moved from the Council table, and the said Henry Monteith was Unanimously Elected and Chosen to bear office as Provost of this Burgh for the ensuing year; who accepted of his said office, gave his oath de fideli administrations officii, and took and Swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration, and Subscribed the same with the aſsurance. Afterwards the Magistrates & Council proceeded to the Election of Baillies for the ensuing year. And the Counsellors present being removed from the Council table the said Henry Monteith Provost now chosen, Charles Stuart Parker & Samuel Hunter Baillies, did set down the leets of Counsellors of teh Merchant rank, from which Baillies were to be chosen for the ensuing year, in terms, and according to the manner provided by the lot and Constitution of the Burgh. And the Counsellors of the Merchant rank, who were capable of being elected Baillie, conformable to the said set, being thirteen in number, including the two youngest Baillies of last year, one of whom can be reelected, were divided into four leets, the first leet containing four persons, and the other three containing three persons each; and the Counsellors who were removed from the Council table, being called upon to take their places, the said four leets were severally voted upon, after the persons in each leet had removed from the Council table, and William Dalglish, Andrew Templeton Samuel Hunter, & Daniel Mackenzie were chosen out of the said four leets, and these persons being then put into two leets, the first leet containing the said William Dalglish & Samuel Hunter, and the other containing the said Andrew Templeton & Daniel MacKenzie, and the persons in these leets being severally voted upon, after the persons in them, who were present, had removed from the table, the said William Dalglish was Unanimously elected and chosen to bear office as Eldest merchant Baillie; and the said Andrew Templeton was unanimously elected and chosen to bear office as Second Merchant Baillie for the ensuing year; who accepted of their said offices, gave their oaths de fideli administrations officii, and took and swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration, and subscribes the same with the aſsurance. Afterwards the Magistrates & Council proceeded to the Election of the Eldest Baillie of the Crafts or Trades rank and the Councellors of the Crafts rank who were capable of being elected Bailies, in terms of the lot and Constitution of the Burgh, being Eleven in number (instead of Twelve owing to the resignation of Mr James Cleland) including the youngest Trades Baillie of last year, who can be re elected, being divided into three leets, the first & second containing four persons each, & the third three persons, out of which leet three persons were to be chosen, to the effect one of them might be elected to bear office as Eldest Trades Baillie for the ensuring year; And the said leets being severally voted upon, after the persons in each of them, who ere present had removed from the table, Archibald Newbigging John Machin & Robert Jamieson, were chosen out of the said three leets and were put upon one leet; and the said leet being voted upon, after the persons in it, who were present, had removed from the table, the said Archibald Newbigging was Unanimously Elected and chosen to bear office, as Eldest trades Baillie, of this Burgh, for the ensuing year, who accepted of his Said office, gave his oath de fideli admini [¿] officii, and took and swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration, and subscribed the same, with the aſsurance. Afterwards the sid Magistrates & Council proceeded to Elect a Third Merchant Baillie, under the Act of Convention of Royal Burghs, dated the 16th day of July 1801. And the Counsellors, except the Provost and Baillies just elected into office, and the Baillies who were in office last year, being removed from the Council table, the said Provost and Bailies sat down the leets of the Merchant Counsellors, who were capable of being elected this Merchant Baillie, being ten in number, vizt all the merchant Counsellors who were capable of being elected Baillies by the former Set of the Burgh, except the Baillies just elected, and the late Baillies; and divided the said Counsellors into two leets, each containing five persons, out of which the third Merchant Baillie for the ensuing year was to be chosen; and the said leet being severally voted upon after the persons in each of them who were present had removed from teh Council table, William Eccles & Daiel Mackenzie, Merchant Counsellors were chosen from the said two leets, and were put upon one leet; and the said leet being voted upon, the said William Eccles was unanimously elected and chosen third or youngest Merchant Baillie for the ensuing year. Lastly, the said Magistrates & Council proceeded to Elect the Second, or Youngest Trades Baillie, in terms of the foresaid Act of Convention of Rogue Burghs, dated the 16th day of July 1801. And the Counsellors, except the said Provost and Baillies, being removed from the Council table, the said Provost and Baillies set down the leets of Trades Counsellors, who were capable of being elected youngest Trader Baillie, being ten in number, vixt. all the Trades Counsellors, who were capable ofbeing elected Trades Baillie, except the said Archibald Newbigging just elected, and William Rodger late Baillie, and divided the said Counsellors into two leets, containing five persons each, from which the said Trades Baillie for the ensuring year was to be chosen. And the said two leets being severally voted upon, after the persons in each of them, who were present, had removed from the table, Robert Hood & James Burns, Trades Counsellors, were chosen from these two leets, and put into one leet, and the said leet being voted upon, the said Robert Hood was unanimously elected and chosen to bear office, as second or youngest Trades Baillie of this Burgh for the ensuring year; who accepted of his said office, gave his oath de fideli administrativione officii, and took and Swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration, and subscribed the same with the aſsurance. [¿] Henry Monteith At Glasgow the Seventh day of October Eighteen hundred & fourteen years Which day, being the ordinary day for Electing the persons, who are to be Members of the Town Council of Glasgow, in place of the Senior Counsellors who by the let of the Burgh are disqualified from being counsellors Convened the Honorable Hery Monteith, Lord Provost, William Dalglish, Andrew Templeton William Eccles Merchant Baillies, and Archibald Newbigging & Robert Hood Trades Baillies, all of the Burgh of Glasgow and all now in office, the said William Eccle having of this date accepted of his said office, given his oath de fideli administratione officii and taken & sworn the oaths of allegiance & abjuration and subscribed the same together with the aſsurance Convened also Kirkman Finlay who was elected Lord Provost at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve, & Eighteen hundred & thirteen, Charles Stuart Parker who was elected Merchant Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve, & eighteen hundred & thirteen Samuel Hunter who was elected Merchant Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & thirteen, William Rodger who was elected Trades Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve, and Eighteen hundred & thirteed, Joshua Heywood & William Leckie who was elected Merchant Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve, & Robert Tennent who was elected Trades Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve, together with Walter Ferguson present Deacon Convenor of the City, having been all, (as well as John Guthrie Dean of Guild who was absent) Summoned to attend this dict, personally, or at their dwelling places, as was verified by William Murray Council officer And because the said Kirkman Finlay was elected Provost at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve & Eighteen hundred & thirteen, and the said Charles Stuart Parker was elected a Merchant Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve & Eighteen hundred & thirteen, and the said William Dalglish was elected a Merchant Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & thirteen, & Michaelmas last, whereby three of the Merchant electors were awanting, Therefore the said Electors made choice of James Coats, James Robertson & Alexander Stewart Merchants in Glasgow, to be Electors of the Merchant rank in place of the said Kirkman Finlay, Charles Stuart Parker & William Dalglish. And because Archibald Newbigging was elected a Trades Baillie, at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & thirteen and Michaelmas last, and William Rodger was elected a Trades Baillie at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & twelve & Eighteen hundred & thirteen, whereby two of the Trades Electors were awanting, Therefore the said Walter Ferguson took his place as one of the Electors of the Trades rank in place of the said Archibald Newbigging, and the said Electors made choice of Robert Tennent Junior, Maltman, to be an Elector in place of the said William Rodger, whereby the number of Electors present were completed to Eighteen; to which number it is neceſsary to complete them in terms of the Set of the Burgh as now established. Afterwards, the said Eighteen Electors so convened, being, in terms of the Set and Regulations of the Burgh, to make choice of those who are to bear office as Counsellors, instead of those disqualified by Seniority, or who have died or refused to accept of their officers, there was laid before the said Electors by the Town Clerks, a list of the Members of Last years Council, specifying the dates of their having been admitted into Council. And the said Electors having examined the said List, and having considered that in terms of the Set and Regulations of the Burgh the two Senior Counsellors of the Merchant rank, and the two Senior Counsellors of the Crafts rank, full to be diqualified, and new ones elected in their Stead: That Joshua Heywood was elected a Merchant Counsellor on the twenty third of April Eighteen hundred & Eight, and that John Hamilton & James Dennistoun were elected Merchant Counsellors at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & nine, and that therefore the said Joshua Heywood, and either of the said John Hamilton & James Dinnistoun, fall to be disqualified from seniority, (the said Henry Monteith & William Eccles being neceſsary Members of Council, as being in the Migistracy, and the said John Guthrie being also a neceſsary That Robert Tennent was elected a Trades Counsellor or tenth of February Eighteen hundred & Six, and that John Graham was elected a Trades Counsellor at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred and eight; and that therefore the said Robert Tennent and John Graham fall to be disqualified from Seniority: Therefore the said Electors do hereby disqualify the said Joshua Heywood, and, by a plurality of votes, the said John Hamilton, as the two Senior Counsellors of the Merchant rank, and the said Robert Tennent & John Graham as the two Senior Counsellors of the Crafts rank. And Elect and Make choice of Robert Haddow & William Muir Merchants in Glasgow, to be Counsellors of the Merchant rank, in place of the said Joshua Heywood & John Hamilton, whereby the number of ordinary Merchant Counsellors is completed to twelve, which is their full number, according to the Set of the Burgh, as now established. And Considering that the said Walter Ferguson Deacon Convenor, was elected into that office when he was not an ordinary Counsellor, and, therefore by the Set and Constitution of the Burgh, falls to be Elected an Orindary Counsellor, in place of one of the Trades Counsellors, so disqualified, the said Electors do, therefore Elect and Declare him an Ordinary Counsellor of the Crafts rank, instead of the said Robert Tennent, and Elect & make choice of William Dunn Hammerman in Glasgow to be an Ordinary Counsellor of the Crafts rank instead of the said John Graham. And farther considering that James Cleland who was elected Trades Counsellor at Michaelmas Eighteen hundred & ten, resigned his office on the twenty ninth September last in consequence of his being appointed Superintendant of the Public works of the City, the said Electors make choice of Ebenezer Richardson to be an ordinary Counsellor of the Crafts rank instead of the said James Cleland, whereby the number of Counsellors of the Crafts rank is completed to eleven, being their full number. And further Declare, that the Counsellors not disqualified, and now elected besides the Lord Provost, fine Baillies, and master of works to be elected for the ensuing year, are as follows. Afterwards there was presented an Extract of an Act of the Merchants House, under the hand of John Douglas Clerk to the house bearing this date, containing a Leet of the following persons, to the effect one of them might be chosen Dean of Guild of this Burgh for the ensuing year, vizt. John Guthrie Robert Dennistoun William Slew Merchants Which leet being put to the vote, the said John Guthrie was unanimously re elected to bear office as Dean of Guild of this Burgh, for the ensuing year, who accepted of his office, gave his oath de fideli administrationi officii, and took and swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration and subscribed the same with the aſsurance. The said day there was produced an Extract of an Act of the Trades House of Glasgow, under the hand of Benjamin Mathie Clerk to the House, bearing this date, containing a leet of three persons, to the effect one of them might be chosen to bear office as Deacon Convenor of this Burgh for the ensuing year, vizt. Walter Ferguson Barber William Aird Hammerman James Hunter Maltman; which leet being put to the vote, the said Walter Ferguson was unanimously re elected to bear office as Deacon Convenor of this Burgh for the ensuing year, who accepted of his office, gave his oath de fideli administratione officii, and took and Swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration and Subscribed the same with the aſsurance. The said day, the Deacons, and Members of the Merchant House, before named, who were added to the Magistrate & Counsellors, for chasing the Dean of Guild and Deacon Convenor, hving retired from the Council Chamber, the persons after named were put into a leet, to the effect one of them might be chosen to bear office as Treasurer, for the ensuing year, vizt Robert Ferrie William Brand; Which leet being put to the vote, the said Robet Ferrie was unanimously chosen to bear office as Treasurer of this Burgh for the ensuing year. The said day, the persons after named were put into a leet, to the effect one of them might be chosen to bear office as Water Baillie, or Baillie of the River & Firth of Clyde, for the ensuing year vizt. Robert Jamieson Basil Ronald Which leet being put to the vote, the said Robert Jamieson was Unanimously chosen to bear office, as Baillie of the River and firth of Clyde for the ensuing year; And farther the Magistrates & Council Nominate and Appoint William Mitchell to be aſsistant or Depute Baillie, to the said Robert Jamieson, with power to the said William Mitchell, during the neceſsary absence of the said Robert Jamieson, but not otherwise, to execute the said office of Bailliary, and to administer justice to the Lieges, as is full and ample a manner, as the said Robert Jamieson might, or could, have done, had he been personally present. And the said Robert Jamieson accepted of his said office, gave his oath de fideli administratione officii, and took and swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration and subscribed the same with the aſsurance. The said day the persons after named were put into a list to the effect one of them might be chosen to bear office as Baillie of Gorbals, for the ensuing year, vixt. William Muir William Leckie; which leet being put to the vote, the said William Muir was Unanimously chosen to bear office, as Baillie of Gorbals for the ensuing year. And farther the Magistrates & Council did Elect William Thomson residing in Hutchesontown, & John Burnie reiding in Launceston, to be resident and Conjunct Baillies, with the asid William Muir, to officiate as Baillies in conjunction with him, when he is present, and to hold Couts, Administer justice and officiate as Baillies, in the absence of the said William Muir in the same manner, and with the same powers, as if he were present. And remit to the Magistrates to take the oaths of the said Baillies de fideli administratione officii, and the oaths of allegiance & Abjuration. The said day, the persons after nmaed were put into a leet, to the effect one of them might be chosen to bear office as Baillie of provan for the ensuing year, vizt. John Morrison James Hill; which leet being put to the vote, the said John Morrison was unanimously chosen to bear office as Baillie of Provan for the ensuing year. And remit to the magistrates, to take his oath de fideli administratione officii, and the oaths of allegiance & abjuration. The said day, the persons after named were put into a leet, to the effect one of them might be chosen Master of Work, for the ensuing year, vizt. Joshua Heywood John Berry; Which leet being put to the vote, the said Joshua Heywood was unanimously chosen Master of Works for the ensuing year. The said day, Elect and appoint James Cleland Wright, Superintendant of the Public works of the City, for the ensuing year The said day there was presented an Extract of an Act of the Corporation of Maltmen under the hand of J R Gardner their Clerk, bearing date the Eleventh current, containing a leet of the persons after named to the effect one of them might be chosen visitor of the Maltmen for the ensuing year, vizt. Robert Tennent Jnr James Hunter Alexr. Galloway robert Hunter & Hugh Tennent; which leet being put to the vote the said Robert Tennent Jnr. was unanimously Elected to bear office, as visitor of the Maltmen, for the ensuing year. The said day, the Magistrates & Council Unanimously re elected and continued James Reddie, Richard Henderson, & Robert Thomson, to be first, second & third Town Clerks of this Burgh, and Clerks ad Legal aſseſsors to the Town Courts, and to the Barony of Gorbals and Water Baillie Courts for the ensuing year, and until the next annual election. And the said James Reddie, Richard Henderson, & Robert Thomson accepted of their said offices, gave their oaths de fideli administratione officii, and took and swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration and subscribed the same with the aſsurance. The sid day, the persons after named and designed, were put into a leet to the effect one of them might be chosen Pror fiscal of this Burgh, and of the Town Courts, Barony of Gorbals, and Water Baillie, Courts for the ensuing year vizt John Bennet James King Writers; Which leet being put to the vote, the said John Bennet was Unanimously chosen Pror fiscal of this Burgh, and of the said Courts for the ensuing year; who accepted of his Office, gave his oath de fideli administratione officii, and took and swore the oaths of allegiance and abjuration and subscribed the same with the aſsurance. The said day re elect & continue John Burns to be Towns Surgeon for the ensuing year, and until the next annual elections. The said day nominate & appoint the Lord Provost & Baillies, and Joshua Heywood, William Leckie William Muir, John Macken William Mitchell, James Hunter & Ebenezer Richardson Counsellors, to be Directors of the Town's Hospital, until the next annaul election. The said day, in terms of the Acts of Parliament for improving the navigation of the River Clyde and enlarging the Harbour of Glasgow, nominate and appoint James Black Alexander Campbell, James Mackenzie Archibald Hamilton Junr., Jamese Robertson & William Aitken, as the six Commiſsioners required by the said Acts of Parliament, to be named by the magistrates & Council yearly, for inspecting, auditing and adjusting the accounts of the receipts & disbursements of the Trustees, under the said Acts of Parliament. The said day Nominate and appoint James Black, Robert Findlay, Alexander Stewart, Alexander Wilson, William Aitken, Richard Dick, Robert Watson, James Oswald, James Connell, Michael Muirhead, Laurence Craigie, John Hamilton, John Wardrop, Archibald Hamilton Junr., Douglas Alston, John McCaul, William Maxwell, A. O. Campbell James Graham Junr. and Archibald Wallace Merchnts in Glasgow to be Commiſsioners during the ensuing year, for executing the powers vested in the Commiſsioners authorized to be chosen by the Magistrates & Council by the Acts of Parliament for building Bridges over the River Clyde, within the limits therein mentioned. The said day, Nominate and appoint Baillie Templeton Bailie Newbigging, The Deacon Convenor, Meſsrs. Charles Stuart Parker, Samuel Hunter & Daniel Mackenzie, as a Committie of Council along with the Reverend Drs. . for visiting the Grammar School of Glasgow, and attending the conduct of the Masters, and the progreſs in learning made by the Scholars. Mr. Parker Convenor of the Committie. The said day, Nominate and appoint the Dean of Guild, the Deacon Convenor, the Master of Works, and and Meſsrs Daniel MacKenzie, John Macken, William Rodger, William Dunn, as a Committee, with the Superintendant of Works, to examine all accounts and claims of Tradesmen against the City, to report whether they be fairly called justly charged previous to their being paſsed in Council, and to make up a distinct state, exhibiting the amount of the expenditure, under each particular head, of any importance, so as to render it easy to ascertain at one view, upon what article any advance, or diminution, of expenditure takes place. The Dean of Guild Convenor of the Committee; and three a quorum. The said day, Nominate and appoint the Lord Provost & Baillies, the Master of Work, & Meſsr William Muir, William Mirrlees & James Burns William Mitchell & Ebenezer Richardson, as a Committee for directing and managing the [¿] of this City, with power to them to appoint such servants, as to them shall seem proper. The Lord Provost Convenor of the Committee; five a quoroum; And Baillie Newbigging & the Master of works to take the charge & superintendeance till next annual election. The said day, Nominate & appoint The Lord Provost, Baillies Dean of Guild, Deacon Convenor, Master of Works, James Dennistoun Samuel Hunter, Charles S. Parker John More, James Hunter, with the aſsistance of the Chamberlain, & Superintendant of works as a Committee for directing, Super intending, and eecuting the different alterations & improvements, which have been, or may be, appointed to be made on the Green of Glasgow Five a quorum; and the Lord Provost Convenor. The said day Nominate and Appoint, the Dean of Guild, Baillie Newbigging, Daniel Mackenzie, the Master of Works, John More, William Rodger, Robert Ferrie, with the Chamberlain and Superintendant of works, to superintend and take charge of the Towns Quarries & Mills, to let the Quarries to Masons and other persons, according to the usual rules and regulations. The said day, Nominate and appoint the Dean of Guild, Baillie Templeton Daniel Mackenzie, James Denniston, John More, & William Leckie, s a Committee to inspect & examine the Books and accounts kept by the City Chamberlain from the first day of January last, to the first day of January Eighteen hundred and fifteen. And appoint the said Committee to report in writing to the Magistrates & Council their progreſs in the busineſs. The Dean of Guild Convenor; three a quorum. The said day Nominate & appoint Baillie Newbigging, Joshua Heywood Charles S Parker, William Muir, William Mirrlees & James Burns William Mitchell to be, from the first day of January next till the first day of Jaunary following, the Directors of the Sunday schools, whom the Magistrates and Council are empowered to appoint by the Seal of Cause granted to the Society of Managers of the said schools. The said day Nominate and apppoint the Lord provost & Baillies, Dean of Guild, Deacon Convenor, Master of works, and Charles S Parker, William Rodger & Robert Farrie, with the Superintendant of works, as a standing Committee on the Gaol of this City. The Lord Provost Convenor; five a quorum. The sid day Nominate and appoint Baillie Newbigging, the Master of Works, Daniel Mackenzie Charles S parker, John Macken & James Hunter with the Superintendant of works as a Standing Committee to take charge of the Churches and Church yards of this City, until the next Annual election. Baillie Newbigging Convenor. The said day Nominate and appoint the Lord Provost, Kirkman Finaly Daniel Mackenzie, Samuel Hunter, John More and the Master of Works, with the Chamberlain & Superintendant of Works, as a Committee, to consider how any of the small pieces of property, belonging to the Community, may be laid out, or disposed of, so as to improve the revenue of the City and to report. The said day Nominate & appoint the Lord Provost, Dean of Guild & Deacon Convenor, as a standing Committee to attend to any law proceſses, in which the City may be interested. The said day Nominate and appoint Baillie Hood, the Master of Works William Leckie, William Rodger, John Macken, & James Hunter with the Superintendant of Works, as a Committee on the Public Markets of the City. Baillie Hood Convenor. The said day Nominate & appoint the Lord Provost, Dean of Guild, Baillie Newbigging, Kirkman Finlay Daniel Mackenzie, William Rodger & Robert Ferrie with the Superintendant of works, as a Committee to continue & proceed with the neceſsary measures for having the New Court Halls, Public Offices & Jail completely finished, and the acceſs thereto by Saltmarket Street, East Clyde Street and Market Lane improved. The Dean of Guild Convenor. The said day Nominate and appoint Baillie Templeton, Kirkman Finlay James Dennistoun, Daniel Mackenzie & John More as a Standing Committee of Finance to enquire into, and ascertain from time to time, the state of the Towns funda and annual expenditure, and to concert measures, for improving the revenue of the City in general, and for providing the Supplies of Cash requisite for carrying on Public undertakings, when the funds specially destined for such purposes cannot be immediately realized. Baillie Templeton Convenor of the Committee. The said day, there was laid before the Council, a letter from Mr John Ryburn, who was elected a Merchant Counsellor on the 7th instant, of which the following is a copy. "Buchanan "Street 11 Octr. 1814, Sins, I beg leave "to acquaint you that I do not "intend to qualify as a Councillor "I have the honour to be Sirs Your obt Servant (Signed) John Ryburn (Addreſsed) The Lord provost Magistrates & Town Council of Glasgow" On Considering which letter, and that by the fifth regulation of the set and Constitution of the Burgh, as amended by Act of Council of date the second day of October Eighteen hundred & one, it is enacted, that any person chosen to be a Counsellor, refusing or neglecting to accept as therein mentioned, shall be fined & [¿] in the Sum of Forty pounds Sterling payable to the Collectors of the Merchants & Trades houses respectively for behoof of their poor, according to the rank which the refusing or neglecting Counsellor shall be of, Therefore the Magistrates & Council Fined, and do hereby Fine and [¿] the said John Ryburn in the Sum of forty pounds Sterling in terms of the Set of the Burgh. And Decern and Ordain him to pay the said sum to James Hill, Collector of the Merchants house of Glasgow, or his succeſsors in office, for behoof of the poor of the said Merchants House. And Ordained and hereby Ordain the said Collector within three months after an Extract of this Sentence shall be put into his hands, to produce a Certificate, under the hands of the Den of Guild for the time being, of his having accounted for the said fine to the said House, otherwise the said Collector to pay the said fine to the City Treasurer for the use of the Burgh, with one fifth part further for neglecting to levy the same, in terms of the said fifth regulation.
