Minutes of meeting 2130 on Thursday 26 October 2000. Room 327, John Anderson Building, University of Strathclyde.

Apologies were received on behalf of [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] , [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] , [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] , [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname],

Minutes: were on the table, as was an Application for Membership from Mr [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] (3rd reading). Mr [CENSORED: surname] was duly declared a member.

President’s Intimations:

Secretary: Form for Glasgow 2000 souvenirs plus Bulletin 3 to read. Various auction catalogues, Portsmouth Stamp Shop, It was requested that items for the Auction should be in the hands of the Secretary by 30th November – some had, in fact, already been received.

Treasurer: not present.

Packet secretary: not present.

Librarian: not present.

Delegate to Congress: The delegate reminded members of the previous week’s items.

Vera Trinder order: [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] reported that the Vera Trinder catalogue was available and that he would be happy to receive orders.

President, [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], then introduced [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] – inviting him to give his display of ‘A Century of the Cinema’.

Mr [CENSORED: surname] is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society, a Film and T.V. lecturer, a Film and T.V. Historian and a critic of both subjects.

The first part of the evening was a showing of a film he had written and devised for the 1999 NE Philatelic Weekend – “Century of Cinema – A Celebration in Stamps”. This proved to be superbly entertaining, educational and of high technical achievement. It was of great interest to see stamps, on the screen, enlarged to 6ft across. Greatly appreciated by members was Mr [CENSORED: surname] technique of dissolving from an illustration, on a stamp, exactly into the relevant clip from the ‘movie’ depicted. Mr [CENSORED: surname] was to be congratulated on his research, acquisition of film clips and his undoubted talent.

The second round consisted of a very fine selection of stamps, postal stationery, meter marks, covers, maximum cards etc. The material coming from many countries and covering all genres and was most interestingly described, with great enthusiasm, by Mr [CENSORED: surname] .

Vote of thanks: Mrs [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] thanked Mr [CENSORED: surname] for making the journey north and complimented him on a most original and entertaining display. It had been a fascinating evening given by an obviously very keen expert. This was heartily endorsed by the Society.

In reply, Mr [CENSORED: surname] thanked the Society for the warmth of its welcome and donated a copy of The Postal History Of Durham City (which he had co-written with [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] to the library.
