Minutes of meeting 2147 held on Thursday 22nd March 2001, Room327, John Anderson Building, University of Strathclyde.
The President opened the meeting by welcoming those present. There was a special welcome for [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] from Glasgow P.S.
Apologies: [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] (he had had his operation and appeared to be fairing well), [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname].
Minutes: were on the table.
President’s Intimations: Membership application, [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], on table for third reading and he was declared a member. There had been a successful visit to the Edinburgh Society on Tuesday 20th March. The Society was represented by The President, [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] and [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname].
Secretary: Reminded members of the Annual Congress at Falkirk and requested them to sign the attendance book which would be situated at the front desk.
Treasurer: Absent
Packet Secretary: Things were still going well and he had a supply of booklets with him – for sale.
Librarian: Nothing to report
Delegate to Congress: He also reminded members of Congress and said that there was the possibility of moving it to Perth and invited comments and observations. Copies of the third issue of Scottish Philately (the news-sheet of the ASPS) were on the table.
Display: The President invited Mrs [CENSORED: forename] & Mr [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname], to present their displays. Mr [CENSORED: surname] took the first half of the evening and showed a representation of Bavarian items, available to the collector. There were stamps (mainly used to shoe the various town cancellations), Postal Stationery (both ‘official’ and ‘private’), complete used wrappers, Postage Dues, Railway Stamps, Pre-cancels and the Numbered cog-wheel cancellations. The display was arranged according to the different Monarchy and Republican periods. Many superb and rare items were in the display,
For the second half Mrs [CENSORED: surname] chose to present material belonging to the various French Philatelic Exhibitions. The late 1800s saw the start of these and the material covered all aspects of National, Regional and Local Club exhibitions – Stamps, Covers, Cards, Cancellations and superbly engraved vignettes. It was interesting to see how many exhibitions had been held during the 1937-47 period. There was the possibility that they were used as cover for Resistance meetings.
Vote of Thanks: [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname] gave a full appreciation of the evening’s displays. Mr [CENSORED: surname]’s Bavarian material had been marvellous and was a superb coverage of all items available. Mrs [CENSORED: surname]’s Exhibitions had been another splendid display of really excellent material. He thought that the ASPS might like to take note of the 1947 Exhibition at Macon – where a Philatelic Exhibition and Wine Fair were held conjointly! The Society members showed their appreciation of the evening with a very hearty round of applause
Next Meeting: ‘Music’ by Miss [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname].
Tea Rota: [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname]
Barrier: [CENSORED: forename][CENSORED: surname].
The President closed the evening by wishing everyone a safe journey home.
