MINUTES

23rd Meeting, 2000 (Session 1)

Wednesday 25 October 2000

Also present: Ms Nicola Sturgeon, Shona Robison, Brian Adam and Susan Deacon.

The meeting opened at 9.34am.

Dr Richard Simpson declared that he is director of a nursing home company in England which is relevant to item 3.



1. Items in private: The Committee agreed to take items 7, 8, and 9 in private.


2. Arbuthnott Report: The Committee heard evidence from the Minister for Health and Community Care, Susan Deacon. The Committee was offered a briefing by the Executive on this subject.


3. Winter Bed Planning: The Committee heard evidence from The Minister for Health and Community Care. The Committee agreed to seek written clarification from the Executive on the expenditure of Grampian Health Board’s winter pressure funds and to forward any written questions that members wished to pursue for written reply.


4. Hepatitis C: The Committee heard evidence from The Minister for Health and Community Care. The Committee was offered a briefing by the Executive on this subject. The Committee noted that the Minister undertook to meet with the Haemophilia Society to discuss outstanding issues arising from the report.


5. Budget 2001-02: The Committee heard evidence from The Minister for Health and Community Care.


6. Subordinate Legislation: The Committee considered the following negative instrument and determined that it had no recommendation to make—

The Food Irradiation Provisions (Scotland) Regulations 2000 (SSI 2000/309).

The meeting was adjourned between 12:00 noon and 12:07pm.


7. Community Care Inquiry (in private): The Committee agreed to take this item at a private meeting on 1 November 2000.


8. Budget 2001-02 (in private): It was agreed that the Clerk would provide a draft response to the Scottish Executive for consideration by the Committee.


9. Legislation (in private): The Committee agreed the specification for an advisor on forthcoming legislation and agreed the order of preference of candidates.
