And Alec McPhee's got a notion of me
We chat on the tram as we chum it to work
And near every Sunday walk home from the kirk.
But Alec's that shy that I'm never sure whether
You could actu'lly say we were going out thegether
It's at gettin' the words out that Alec's so blate
Pluckin' up courage to ask for a date.
Now that kinda thing can keep goin' on forever
With never a chance of romance whatsoever
For a girl cannae push hersel' in a chap's arms
No matter how certain she is of her charms.
So I'll just have to hope that someday he'll try...
Or look-out till another nice fella comes by.
But I still kinda hanker for Alec McPhee
So I'll no' be too hasty and just bide-a-wee.
