LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE

MINUTES

22nd Meeting, 2000 (Session 1)

The meeting opened at 1.33 pm.

 
1. Item in private: The Committee agreed to hold item 4 in private


2. Trades Unions Day: The Committee took evidence from the following
representatives of trades unions—

Grahame Smith, STUC; Anne Middleton, STUC;

Alex McLuckie, GMB; Richard Leonard, GMB;

Rab Stewart, TGWU; Richard White, TGWU;

Joe Di Paola, UNISON; Douglas Black, UNISON; 

Jane Carolan, UNISON;

The meeting was adjourned from 3.39 pm to 4.00 pm.

3. Outcome of the Scottish Executive's consultation on the McIntosh Report:
The Committee considered paper LG/00/22/2 by the Clerk and noted the
attached report from the Deputy Minister.

The Committee agreed to invite the Deputy Minister for Local Government to
attend the meeting of the Committee on 12 September 2000.


4. Transport (Scotland) Bill (in private): The Committee considered a draft
letter to the Transport Committee to inform its Stage 1 consideration of
the Bill. 

The Committee agreed a number of changes, and delegated powers to the
Convener and the Clerk to finalise the letter and submit it to the Clerk of
the Transport and the Environment Committee.

 

The meeting closed at 5.35 pm.
