Text S1M-1886 Alex Fergusson (South of Scotland) (Con) : Dumfries and Galloway Hardship Fund— That the Parliament notes with alarm the situation which is currently faced by many self-employed businessmen and businesswomen in Dumfries and Galloway who have no income due to the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak and no access to benefits; further notes the position of agricultural and tourist-related businesses in the region which have an immediate requirement for funding through no fault of their own, and calls upon the Scottish Executive to establish a hardship fund to provide interest free loans to ensure the survival of such self-employed individuals and businesses.
