SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 1459 Title : Letter from Frances Gardner 05 - 17/10/89 Author(s): Frances Gardner Copyright holder(s): Dr Sheena Gardner Text [CENSORED: address] Edinburgh [CENSORED: postcode] 17th October. My dear Sheena, I thought you might be interested in this selection of our summer photographs - the good weather continues and we have had some very lovely Autumn Days. Dad and I re-visited Aberfeldy on Saturday. The countryside was beautiful and Mavisbank looking well-cared for again which was nice to see. The first fall of snow was on Ben Lawers and other peaks. We are still waiting to hear news of your flat. Also if you received flowers and money. You will be busy I know. I was playing bridge with Jean [CENSORED: surname] last week ([CENSORED: street name] Ter / Church.) Her husband is Senior lecturer at Edin. University - "he was just exhausted with the start of the term work, student interviews etc" she said - so I felt sympathy for you. One of her sons is doing research at New Brunswick; the other is a model in Hong Kong! And her daughter is having a year out in Australia so other peoples families are scattered too. Did I tell you I had called in at the BESS shop in St Andrews. They can order new academic gowns. Their second hand ones advertised were student red ones. New prices Polyester £49 - or corded silk material £93. PHD - £89 Polyester Blue - you can think about it. Mary will keep a look out for one coming up in Oxfam or elsewhere - I have a feeling I have already mentioned this. - I should have a computer to jog my memory. I hope your computer was not affected by the "virus" on Friday 13th - here it seemed to do a lot of damage to [illegible] Asylum accounts. Kathryn had a "whizz kid" in looking for a job - a young boy with 5 Highers 7A's etc and a confessed computer Hacker!! I told her to steer clear of him. He admitted he knew how to do it but never would!! Well, no more now. I am making a valiant attempt to get photos letters etc sorted out this morning. So much has been put aside all summer. Write soon - lots of love Mum xxx This work is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
