SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 411 Title : Biggam Collection Letter: 18 Author(s): Madge Taylor Law Copyright holder(s): Mr William Biggam Text London, S.E.16. 4th June, 1970 Dear Joan, I got your parcel all-right with your letter, it was a pleasant surprise. I haven't written sooner to thank you because I've had another bout of bronchitis which is just beginning to go now. I've got to go back to the Dr. tomorrow. He gave me an inhaler to use sparingly when I can't breathe. Its been a help. I've had tetracycline this time. I'm getting my money's worth out of the health service lately. Robert was in hospital for suspected appendicitis but it didn't come to anything and they discharged him on the 5th day. He's had the pain this Monday again I sent him along to the Dr. and he gave him some medicine which is making him run, and said if it got any worse he was to go back before Friday, well the pain never got any worse and it seems to be going. If its a grumbling appendix it must be just a slight one. Norman had a bout of bronchitis just over a fortnight before his Austrian holiday but he was better just in time to pass the medical for going. He enjoyed the holiday very much and he was talking about how nice and fresh the air was there. He says it was cold most of the time and very heavy rain for a few days and yet we've been having glorious sunshine here, I spent most of last week sitting on the balcony. I got buttons and a belt for the brown dress and I'm wearing it to-day the blue one is just a little bit tight but I think I can let it out a bit. I'll get it done when I get rid of my cough. It was very good of you to think of me at your jumble. They had one in the tenents common room here and I got a skirt the exact same pattern as the one you liked when you were here. It was too tight but I let the pleats out the same way as I did with the other one. I got it for 1/6d. I got 2 tee shirts hardly worn to fit Norman for a couple of bob and a pair of pyjamas for Robert for 3/- as far as I could see there wasn't a break in them but the colour had run a wee bit. I didn't get anything for John. There wasn't anything going to fit him. Glad to hear you had a day at Lily and Norries and found them well. Agnes is supposed to be coming here for a holiday but I don't know when yet. Violets girl was in hospital the same time as Robert. Young Eileen told me she had gastro-enteritis. I think shes out again. I haven't seen the new baby yet. I went back to work this week but I haven't been able to get to see Doll. Well that's all the news for now. Hope this finds you and Arthur well, Is the thumb quite better now.? Love from Madge John and boys This work is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
