SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 420 Title : Biggam Collection Letter: 27 Author(s): Madge Taylor Law Copyright holder(s): Mr William Biggam Text Blackrod Bolton 15 November 1993 Dear Joan I wrote to Chrissie a little while ago to tell her that my Norman and Bobbie were moving to another house. Well the move has now been completed and their new address is :- [CENSORED: address] I don't know what the rest of the Post Code is yet. They have kept the same telephone number as before [CENSORED: phonenumber]. They wanted something a little bigger. Its a 4 bedroom with a toilet downstairs. There were a few hitches before it was all signed, sealed and delivered but now it has all gone through, all they have to do now is pay for it. Bobbie has started to work in one of the schools here, part-time so that should help. John and I come in handy for looking after the boys if she is at work when they are off school. It doesn't happen very often. Well I've something to tell you - I wasn't going to say anything just yet but John wants me to put you in the picture straight away. I'm going into hospital for a couple of days so that they can carry out a few tests on me. I'm feeling very well but I might have to have a hysterectomy. You will know all about that having had it yourself. I will let you know how I get on in a few weeks time. Chrissie sent me a letter and told me how you were. You seem to have some very good friends to take you out. I'm glad to hear that Isa is now settled with her mother and her son has got a job. I don't know if you heard that brother John's daughter Joan's husband Paul died. Its a while ago now. My Robert went round to her flat a couple of times but there was nobody in. She was probably at her family's homes. I don't know all the ins and outs of how it happened. I didn't know him very well so we didn't try to go to London for the funeral. I meant to write to Joan but never got round to it. I hope she is managing all right. I've not seen her since her mothers funeral. We went to London for a couple of weeks last spring and we paid brother John a visit. Young John and his wife Esther are living with him (John Snr.) Young John was in hospital so I managed to see him in hospital in Basingstoke. I haven't heard how he got on afterwards. It was something wrong with his back that was the trouble. I feel very sorry for them because he hadn't got a job either and Esther was off sick too. I think she's got brittle bones. I'm sorry I had nothing cheery to write about this time but I hope by the time I write again I will have lots of good news for you. Well I'll say ta ta for noo and later when I've been fixed up I will manage to come and see you. Look after yourself. Love from Madge and John. This work is protected by copyright.
