“The shaving was postponed”
Entry for 20/07/1825
Wednesday 20th. Fresh pleasant breeze and Capt. Crear whe he made his observation at 12 oClock said we were very near the Line & we crossed the Line sometime about dinner time. Capt. Crear was very averse to any shaving taking place on accot. of some misunderstanding among the passengers last voyage; that a few of the passengers seemed so determined to be shaved; that Capt. Crear told them they would be responsible for the consequence, as he would not interfere, & the shaving was postponed.
