SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 1020 Title : Wilton Gardens Residents Association Minutes 12 February 1984 Author(s): 895 Copyright holder(s): Name withheld Text Wilton * Gardens Residents Association Minutes of a Committee Meeting held on Tuesday l2th February 1984 at [CENSORED: house number] Wilton Street (home of Mrs [CENSORED: surname]) at 7.30p.m. Present: R. [CENSORED: surname], M. [CENSORED: surname], J. [CENSORED: surname], R. [CENSORED: surname], M. [CENSORED: surname], N. [CENSORED: surname], T. [CENSORED: surname], M. [CENSORED: surname] Apologies: V. [CENSORED: surname], M. [CENSORED: surname], J. [CENSORED: surname] Letters: No reply or acknowledgement had been received from Roads Dept. to the letter we sent them with regard to nine different matters. A reply from Building Control regarding the Greek Thomson staircase said that the staircase was on the title deeds of the owners of Queen Margaret Road & Kelvinside Terrace West and the upkeep was their responsibility, but that the staircase had been examined and not thought to be in a dangerous state. The same applied to the railings at the top of the banking in Doune Quadrant...they also were the responsibility of the owners. We had received a letter from the Cleansing dept. pointing out that there was a lack of awareness of the litter problem all over Glasgow and that if the Association, in conjunction with other groups in the district, wished to mount a litter campaign we would recive the backing of the Cleansing dept. but they could not afford to run such a campaign on their own due to the economic climate. The schools already have a litter campaign competition going. Maureen [CENSORED: surname] could be interested in organising such a campaign with the help of local organisations in the Spring...depending on the response from leaders. Vandalism and Crime Prevention Report: More housebreakings heard of as well as theft of cars. The good news seemed to be that a man has been apprehended and has admited 104 other cases (as well as Mrs [CENSORED: surname]'s) to be taken into consideration. It was someone who previously lived in the area, so perhaps his apprehension might help the local situation. Further to last month's report of car windscreens smashed, the total for the one evening was nine. The saddening thing was that two residents had heard the gang of youths in action and had never thought of phoning the Police! Part of our job would be to draw Public attention to the fact that the Police cannot do their job without the help of the Public. There has been an awareness of an increased number of men on the beat. Newsletter: Not ready yet owing to a shortage of staff at Printing dept. but hope to have it by the end of the week. M.[CENSORED: surname] will phone members to collect for delivery as soon as she gets them. Parks Dept Speakers: Haven't yet had a definite answer as to whether they'd be at the Public Meeting on 11th March, but M.[CENSORED: surname] thought that it would be OK from what they'd said. Annual General Meeting: Ruth [CENSORED: surname] thought it best to arrange date now. We have arranged it for Monday 10th June. M.McRobb will check that this is OK with church. Newsletters will need to be out by 20th May to give the statutory 21 days notice. Public Meeting: 11th March 1985..Will all members of Committee please be standing by at 7.15pm to get into the hall to set out chairs etc. after the Brownies leave the hall. M.[CENSORED: surname] will get the cups up from kitchen but is not sure whether she will be able to be present or not. Dates of next meetings: A short Committee meeting will be held after the Public meeting on 11th March, rather than have everyone coming out on the 12th again which would have been our normal date. Tues. 9th April: April Committee meeting at Maureen [CENSORED: surname]'s, 242 Wilton Street. Tues. 14th May: Venue to be arranged. Newsletters available for delivery (hopefully). Mon. 10th June: Public Meeting..AGM... No Committee meeting on 11th June. Meeting closed at 9p.m. This work is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
