SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 1460 Title : Letter from Frances Gardner 06 - 13/11/89 Author(s): Frances Gardner Copyright holder(s): Dr Sheena Gardner Text [CENSORED: address] Edinburgh [CENSORED: postcode] 13th November My dear Sheena, Many thanks for the p.c. from Calgary. You sounded as if you were having fun. Its nice now that you feel you know some of the others attending the conference and you would enjoy the company of your colleague Elizabeth from your own University. Quite a relief, too, to get away from -10° for a few days. We are having gloom and doom November weather - not much daylight and murky misty days. However no frost. John [CENSORED: surname] was in Edinburgh last week - his youngest son now at Edinburgh University, had injured a cartilege on his knee and required an operation. John came for lunch, on Wednesday, with Elspeth so we got up to date with their family news. John and Maureen (his wife) are going on holiday to Florida next week!! Of course I didn't know where Uncle Bill & Sheila are staying! - Its a busy place this year!! I opened this letter to check the contents. I thought it was probably just a circular but it wasn't - though you may not be too interested in it. Not much has been happening here. We had a very good lecture at the Geographical Society on Thursday. About the South Pacific Islands - Tonga, Hawaii, and Easter Islands etc., and the peoples and animals living there. Their origin and survival etc. Dad has now disappeared to make the supper so I will close now and tidy up things. Will write again soon. Lots of love Mum xxx This work is protected by copyright.
