SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 41 Title : TV refugees Author(s): George Hynd Copyright holder(s): George Hynd Audio transcription This is called, simply, 'T.V. Refugees'. Almost every night ye'll see them, In yer homes on your T.V.s, The suffering children of this world, They're called the refugees. Their plight does not really concern us For they are far away, Their pain and suffering you cannot feel From your armchair today. We first saw them in Biafra In the days of black and white, Then greetin’ millions sat and watched That fearsome tearsome sight. And when Puff the Magic Dragon Came to see them in Vietnam They were burnt alive wi' Napalm, A gift from Uncle Sam. They cleared mine-fields for Ayatollah And [inaudible] gas out in Iran But it was the will of Allah To heed this holy man. He got killed and maimed in Lebanon He did not know what for As Muslims, Jews and Christians They fight a senseless war. But when mankind he goes to war And invades another kingdom His cause is always liberty And his war cry it is freedom. But for the young ones who are limbless An’ the ones that cannot see An’ the young lives that were wasted From what are they set free? Will the time ever come When all the world's at peace? Will the carnage [?]every[/?] stop And children's suffering cease? Will man put down his weapons? Will he listen to my pleas And make sure tha’ on my T.V. set There are no more refugees?
