SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 782 Title : Dipper: 04 - The Hedgehog Author(s): Dr James A Begg Copyright holder(s): Dr James A Begg Audio transcription M623: The Hedgehog The hedgehog's a funny wee beastie, That keeps himsel weel oot o sicht, But when hungert an wantin a feastie, Ye micht see him aboot ony nicht. He's roun as a barrel wi wee bowlie legs, On his back is a hantle o thorns, That gies them that meddle a guid wheen mair flegs, Than ony big bull wi its horns. He keeps cockit his lugs when he's guzzlin slugs For the soun o the faintest fuit-faa, An if threitent by laddies or foxes or dugs, He'll curl himsel intae a baa. Like a big broun Scotch Thistle, he caumly reclines, Wi the thocht - 'Wha daur meddle wi me!' Till his foe gets fed up bein jagged by his spines, An gaes aff somewhaur else for his tea! Ye micht think that the hedgehog is lucky, But wad you ever feel at yer ease, No able tae scart when it's yeuky, A back that's aye hotchin wi fleas! This work is protected by copyright.
