SCOTS Project - www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk Document : 859 Title : Correspondence from Canada: Letter 11 - 08.10.81 Author(s): 852 Copyright holder(s): Name withheld Text The Maggie 8th Oct. Dear Maw & Paw, Well, with the Clarks, the Wilsons, and now the Forbes, you're not exactly alone with Ali gone! Why don't you just declare "Open House"? Thanks for the letters & birthday card. I've received quite a few cards - from Aunties Mary & Maggie & Uncle Nelson. Thank them for their kind wishes and the notes they sent me. I received my only present (so far) from Carole - a silver German pen - wot I am writing with just now. She has moved into a place in residence at Tübingen and apparently it is really nice. There's been a 'flu epidemic in New Brunswick and especially the residences. I was struck down badly two days ago, tho' I had a sore throat for a few days before that. Yesterday I felt wrung out and barely struggled through classes. I went to bed at 7pm last night and today I've felt a little bit better. I had to finish giving last Thurs.'s seminar today and it went reasonably well. This is Thanksgiving Weekend in America (i.e. U.S.A & Canada) so "Beaver Foods" put on a big turkey dinner at the residences tonight. It was really good - a birthday treat! I now have to fend for myself till Monday tho' - I'll probably eat at the Union. I'm being assigned to Dr. [CENSORED: surname] as a Teaching Assistant so I may have some essays to mark at some time. I think I'm going to be able to cope with the work OK though - I prepared too much for the seminars I've given and will be able to cut down there. Monday's seminar went really well and I enjoyed giving it. I've paid for and received my air tickets to Philadelphia, so I'll be hitting the air-waves again on Dec. 22nd. at 7.50am! I'm looking forward to the trip. Take care, & give my best to all. I'll write again soon. Love, [CENSORED: forename] This work is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
