6th Meeting, 2002 (session 1)

1. Community Engagement in the Social Inclusion Process: The Committee took evidence from—
Brian Henderson, Reid Howie Associates Ltd
and agreed to consider an issues paper at its next meeting on further action.
2. Housing Improvement Task Force First Report: Issues in Improving Quality in Private Housing: The Committee considered its approach to the Scottish Executive consultation and agreed to invite limited written evidence.
3. Draft Covenant between Local Government and the Scottish Parliament: The Committee agreed to write to the Local Government Committee welcoming the draft covenant.
4. Finance Cross-cutting Expenditure Reviews: The Committee agreed to appoint Robert Brown MSP as a reporter to the Finance Committee’s cross-cutting review group on voluntary sector funding and Kenneth Gibson MSP as a reporter to the review group on children and poverty.
The Committee also agreed to refer a copy of its Inquiry into the Voluntary Sector report to the Finance Committee for information.
The Committee further agreed to request that the Finance Committee provide the Convener with papers from the review groups.
5. Petition: The Committee considered Petition PE 396 and agreed to write to the Minister for Social Justice for further information.
6. Church Action on Poverty: The Committee considered an invitation from Church Action on Poverty for the Committee to be represented at its National Conference on Poverty and Social Inclusion and agreed that the Convener would represent the Committee at the Conference.
7. Budget 2003-04: The Committee took evidence from—
Iain Gray, MSP (Minister for Social Justice)
Ms Margaret Curran, MSP (Deputy Minister for Social Justice)
and agreed to consider a draft report on Stage 1 of the Budget Process at a future meeting.
