TOUTE LA MESME GLACE
Since she's hale winter, nithin bit ice,
aa snaw, an her hert birsels wi spikes an ice,
an only ma sangs tak her likin ataa,
fit wye am I here besottit – an nae awa?
Her name, her faimly, fit is it t' me
bit bondage – rigged fancy – that gran pedigree?
Lass, a'm nae sae grey or bald or saft
that some ither, warm-hertit, quidna clim t' ma laft.
Love's a bairn that's nivver gainsaid.
Ye're nae sae prood or weel arrayed
that ye can spurn strachtforrit hert's affection.
Blithe Spring's awa – it winna tak direction –
bit loo me noo for my scant hair,
an a'll catch yer haun fan it trimmles at the stair.
